Ofsted Inspections- An Overview Of What’s New

1.Focus on Curriculum Intent

Ofsted inspections will now have a greater focus on how schools design, implement, and evaluate their curriculum.

What will inspectors assess?

  • How well the curriculum supports all learners, including those with SEND.
  • How ambitious and varied the curriculum is for all pupils.

2.Early Years Provision Under the Spotlight

There is more scrutiny on Early Years education, particularly its alignment with the wider school curriculum.

Inspectors will examine how well Early Years prepares children for later education, focusing on language development and literacy.

3.Personal Development and Cultural Capital

A school’s role in developing well-rounded pupils is now a priority. Inspectors will look to assess:

  • How does your school broaden pupils’ experiences beyond the classroom (extracurricular activities and opportunities)
  • What initiatives does your school have in place to support social responsibility and personal growth?

4.Safeguarding Scrutiny

While safeguarding has always been a key aspect of inspections, Ofsted will now be diving deeper into your school’s safeguarding culture.

They will be looking closely at:

  • The effectiveness of systems in place to prevent and respond to safeguarding ethos.
  • The role of school leaders and governors in embedding a strong safeguarding ethos.

5.Leadership and School Culture

Leadership teams are now expected to drive not only just academic success but also a positive school environment that nurtures well-being and inclusivity.

LSC has been an invaluable partner for our school’s PE program. Their reliability and professionalism ensure that we always have qualified, friendly staff to teach PE to our children

Understanding The Differences Between The New Section 5 & 8 Inspections.

Section 5 Inspections: A full school evaluation covering curriculum, leadership and safeguarding can change the school’s overall rating.
Section 8 Inspections: Shorter, targeted inspections to check if a school is maintaining standards. If concerns arise it may be converted into a Section 5 inspection.
Having a clear understanding of these differences is crucial for effective preparation in upcoming inspections.
